Is it unfair of me to look at these celebrity pieces with a bit of a cynical eye?
I am tired of people who have "sentiments" in our favor. By that I mean, they'll express support, they'll even do pieces like this. But the media is still hostile to us. While progress is being made, with some exceptions, we still do not see GLBT people represented in a positive light as we should.
If people are going to do PSA's, then they should carry that farther and press their industry to be more gay friendly and less reticent about sympathetic LGBT portrayals.
Must distinguish between MSM and Online Media. Spots like this would never be played on MSM. People under 30 don't watch MSM anymore, so these spots reach many more than you'd think. As for the rest, I think the faster our generation dies off the faster equality will come to the media of all types. It is improving slowly but definitely getting better and will soon be nothing worth even talking about anymore.
