GetEqual organizing 'high-impact action' in DC next week

From: "Robin McGehee, GetEQUAL"

We're not ones to cry wolf, so we'll cut to the chase -- we're ready to take action on "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" and we need your help.

Repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" is down to the wire, and we all have to get involved if we have a chance for repeal this year. Deals are being cut in DC as we speak [1] -- and we've got to let our elected officials know that we will not tolerate any more delays on repealing this discriminatory policy. We're done with waiting -- even the survey that went out to troops over the summer is saying that there are no impediments to repeal.

This week, activists across the country are gathering in their local communities to send a message to their Senators that repealing DADT is the right thing to do. When Senators come back to Washington next week, we've got to continue that momentum in a big way.

We are gearing up for one of our largest DADT actions so far. Will you commit to joining us in the last chance to repeal DADT for good?

We're planning a high-impact action in DC next week to ensure that key decision-makers get the message that selling out the LGBT community in order to placate ultra-conservative fears is unacceptable. These large-scale actions are not easy to put on and they require a lot of resources. We need to raise an additional $13,290 dollars before the end of the day Friday to make sure we can have the biggest impact possible.

Every penny that you donate will go to this and other GetEQUAL actions that are pushing the envelope for LGBTQ rights. We'll be using these funds to make sure that we have a diverse array of activists involved with the action, and to cover legal fees if/when they're needed. Your donations will help ensure that those who are willing to take a risk for our collective equality are provided with everything they need to pull off a successful action, including legal assistance.
