Aslie Pitter, 50, helped found London-based Stonewall FC almost 20 years ago. It is now the world’s most successful gay football club.
Mr Pitter, from Balham, south London, told Press Association: “I just feel so honoured today, although it’s recognition for everybody in the club that we’re doing a good thing and helping people fulfil their potential.
“It’s a recognition of English grassroots football.”
The former actor, who is now an assistant manager at a Boots store, still plays for the team and is the reserve manager.
