Iowa Panel approves first step to same-sex marriage vote

FROM: Carolyn Jenison, One Iowa Executive Director
TO: All One Iowa Supporters
Yesterday, the Iowa House advanced an amendment to overturn the Varnum decision and ban the freedom to marry for gay and lesbian Iowans!
Not only does House Joint Resolution 6 (H.J.R. 6) call for banning marriage equality, it slams the door on civil unions, domestic partnerships, and any other legal recognition of same-sex couples.
This is the most serious challenge marriage equality has ever faced in Iowa. But there is still time to put pressure on lawmakers, build support for opposition to the bill, and reveal H.J.R. 6 for the discriminatory measure it is.
We are depending on you to help us mobilize supporters, engage the media, push lawmakers, and build a strong coalition to stand against this amendment.
Please take action now, and help One Iowa send a united message that all loving couples deserve full equality and protection under the law.

P.S. Millions look to Iowa as a bellwether state for politics. Let's show fellow Iowans — and the entire nation — we are committed to marriage equality!
