Brazil's Supreme Court has voted to give gay couples the right to civil unions. The ruling makes Brazil one of very few South American nations, after Argentina and Uruguay, to allow same-sex partnerships.

The killing of a South African lesbian has been condemned as a hate crime by the Human Rights Watch. They've urged police to do more to find those responsible for the murder and rape of Noxolo Nogwaza.

Sydney police have charged a former Australian soldier over a Facebook page which outed and threatened gay military personnel. The un-named 32 year-old was granted conditional bail and will appear in court next month.

Chelsea Clinton has spoken out in defense of gay marriage. The daughter of former US president Bill Clinton and current Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, said more heterosexuals should join the fight.

Finally, singer Ricky Martin has confessed to once believing homosexuality was "evil". The father of two -- who is now happy being gay -- made the comments on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
