That's right everything is backward. The sixth annual Broadway Cares/ Equity Fights AIDS fundraising event is just around the corner on February 7th. The headline above should read "Broadway Cares Presents Broadway Backward". The fundraising event for the organization also will give assistance to the LGBT Community Center in New York.
This is without a doubt one of the fun events of the fundraising season. Roles are switched and genders are confused. Instead of the character "Nellie" in South Pacific singing " Gonna Wash That Man Right Outta My Hair", you would have the "Lt Joseph Cable" sing it. The list can go on and on the switches that will be made that night proving that gender is one of the most unpredictable traits around.
Opening curtain will be at 8PM on February 7th at Broadways Longacre Theater located at 220 W 48th Street. Click here to get your tickets. They sell out fast!
Performing at the benefit will be:
Academy Award-winner F. Murray Abraham, Tony Award winners Hinton Battle (Miss Saigon) and Karen Olivo (West Side Story), Brooks Ashmanskas (Promises, Promises), Ward Billeisen (Anything Goes), Colman Domingo (Scottsboro Boys), Mandy Gonzalez (Wicked) and Jason Tam (A Chorus Line).Clay Aiken (Spamalot), Tituss Burgess (The Little Mermaid), Len Cariou (Sweeney Todd and CBS’s Blue Bloods), Alan Cumming (Cabaret and CBS’s The Good Wife), Robin De Jesús (La Cage aux Folles), Jose Llana (Wonderland), Debra Monk (Curtains), Denis O’Hare (Take Me Out and HBO’s True Blood), Bobby Steggert (Ragtime), Brian Charles Rooney (The Threepenny Opera) and Tony Yazbeck (Gypsy).
